ANZAC Day in the Adelaide Hills: How to Make a Day of It

If you are up early for a dawn service, and to be fair there is nothing quite like that stillness in the Hills at 6am, why not turn the whole day into something special? One of our readers shared how they spend ANZAC Day, and we loved it so much we turned it into a full itinerary.

AN ANZAC DAY IN THE HILLS

From dawn service to sweet finish

1. Start with the dawn service

ANZAC Day services are held in most towns across the Hills, so begin with that early morning reflection close to home. The quiet of the Hills at dawn sets the tone for the whole day. Lest we forget.

2. A crisp bushwalk

Once the service is done, head out for a crisp bushwalk. The cool autumn air and turning leaves make this the loveliest time of year to be out on the trails, and it is a gentle way to keep the morning unhurried.

3. Wine by a firepit and a pub lunch

From there, settle in somewhere with a wine by a firepit, then a relaxed pub lunch. It is exactly the kind of slow, warm middle to the day that the Hills do so well.

4. Apple picking and a sweet finish

Round things out with apple picking and the sweetest finish in Summertown. A day full of flavour, local charm and fresh air, exactly what the Hills do best.

BEFORE YOU GO

You can check which towns are holding ANZAC Day services through the local listings. Pack warm layers, leave room for a long lunch, and let the day unfold at its own pace.
